トン・クラミとは、メールスに出演する際につけられた名前だ。三人のミュージシャンの、緊密で、柔軟なコラボレーション。 姜奏煥の驚異的なノン・ブレスの内側にある音のうねり。一打一打に鋭利なセンスが閃く高田みどり。そして、この二人が音楽の流れを創る上で頼りにしている佐藤允彦。
その佐藤允彦が云う。「純粋即興演奏というのは、演奏能力が或る程度以上の水準にあり、深い意味で音楽の構造というものを知っているミュージシャンが三人――まあ 場合によっては四人を限界に――集って、始めて成立する。そうでない場合は、何ら かの枠組みを作らないと、音楽にならなくなってしまうから、純粋即興ではなくなる」。
