I was 21, she two years older. Well, I had to grow two inches per day to meet her at the level she demanded. Age is a matter if the mind at the end, and that was my only hope. There were things I said I meant in an endearing way, that upset her, and the other way around.
But despite all little misunderstandings there was one basic level in which we communicated without words, without superficial gestures. It was Love. Two people from two totally, totally totally, different cultures in a relationship require a greater understanding and accenptance than in any other circumstance. One has to meet above the cultural conventions, not pulling the other one in, not being pulled across by the other. But a harmonious togetherness with the appreciation of the diversity and riches the other person contributes. This is were an 'intercultural'relationship is so wonderful - the new world that opens and unfolds and becomes part of yours. And yes, there is nothing more seductive, endearing, cute, tempting, on-turning than the few words the other can speak in one's language, for sure!
