火曜日の授業で詩の翻訳のプレゼンせねばならず、
日本の詩を紹介するということで
宮沢賢治の「永訣の朝」を翻訳してみました。
なんか、英語だとイメージ違う?!

The morning of a eternal parting by Kenji Miyazawa

Dear my sister
Today you will go far away
It is sleety outside and strangely light
[Please bring me some sleet]
From the slightly red, and much more gloomy cloud
The sleet is falling thick and wet
[Please bring me some sleet]
I run out like a turning ball of a gun into the dark sleet
To take some snow and rain which you will eat
In these two chipped bowls
Painted with blue pattern of a herb
[Please bring me some sleet]
From the blue grey gloomy cloud
The sleet is sinking thick and wet
Oh, Toshiko
Now that you are dying
To make me more delightful
This bowl of the clean snow
You ask me to bring
Thank you for my laudable sister
I will make my way in a straight
[Please bring me some sleet]
In the terrible fever and short gasps
You ask me the last one bowl of snow
Which fall down from the sky
Called the galaxy, the sun, or the atmosphere…
….On the two granite stone
The sleet has been accumulated forlorn
I stand on it unstable
Keeping balance of the two pure white elements, snow and water
From the glossy branch of the pine
Full of transparent cold rain drops
I take the last meal for my sweet sister
We have grown up together
And have been familiar with this blue pattern of the bowls
You are also leaving from it today

You are really leaving today

Oh my laudable sister
You are burning gently and pallidly
In the dark of a folding screen or a mosquito net of the patient room
The all snow I take from everywhere is totally pure white
From the horrendous and boisterous sky
This beautiful snow come down

[If I were born in next time, I would not suffer from only my problems.]

Now I pray from the bottom of my heart
For these two bowls of snow which you will eat
I wish it become an ice cream in the heaven
And bring the sacred food for you and everyone
I give all my happiness to pray for it
